Prejudice and discrimination are probably two of the biggest problems in our society. Most people would agree that we need to change this, but, in fact, we don’t put this knowledge into practice. As we can see in the streets, prejudice is not decreasing!

First of all, we should admit that prejudice and discrimination are destroying our world. It is also true that we tend to discriminate against the ones that are different just because they are not like us.

Furthermore, studies have shown that people tend to imitate their friends when they discriminate against different people. It is important to have in mind that the fact that our friends do it is not an excuse for discrimination. We should be able to rise above prejudice and defend the ones that are victims of anti-humanism.

To sum up, in my opinion, we should accept the differences because they help us evolve and become a beautiful mosaic.

Concurso Inês de Castro

O Concurso Inês de Castro recolhe da história de D. Pedro e D. Inês a sua temática base permanente e unificadora, sendo a 10ª edição dedicada a uma das suas dimensões: o AMOR e DESAMOR. 

O Concurso dirige-se aos alunos do 3º ciclo do Ensino Básico e do Ensino Secundário que se façam conhecedores da história da relação entre D. Pedro e D. Inês de Castro e realizem, a partir do mapeamento de lugares históricos e geográficos bem como dos seus contextos sociais, políticos, económicos, literários e afetivos, um trabalho performativo direta ou indiretamente relacionado com os amores de Pedro e Inês.

Inscrição no concurso até 23 de março.

How do you define yourself as a teenager?

I'm a fifteen-year-old girl, who has lots of worries, dreams and interests, like all other teenagers.

In fact, something that worries me a lot is the ridiculous amount of time teenagers spend in front of the TV set, smartphone or computer. It's such an unhealthy activity but many parents don't even care; instead, they do the same thing ...

One of my biggest dreams is to be a pilot in the Portuguese airforce. When I was a child, I used to keep looking at the aircrafts while I was in an airport waiting for some flight, wondering if one day I would be able to be a pilot.

I expect to finish high school and take a degree in Languages and International Relations and later work as a flight attendant in Emirates Airlines.

How do you define yourself as a teenager?

All teens are different and so are their tastes. Everybody has their worries, dreams and interests, but, in this specific stage of life, these things are very important.

I consider myself a typical teenager. That’s because I have problems too. My major worry is that I’m going to become an adult. I’m going to deal with a lot of responsibilities and preoccupations and I don’t know if I’m ready for it.

However, I don’t think that my future will only bring problems. I sometimes sit on the sofa and I imagine that I will be a successful man with a family who loves me.

Like all the other teens, I like technologies and I find an escape in them.

I don’t know what I want to be in the future, but I think that good things are awaiting me.

Manuel Alegre vence Prémio Camões 2017

O escritor português Manuel Alegre é o vencedor do Prémio Camões 2017, foi anunciado na passada quinta-feira na Biblioteca Nacional, no Rio de Janeiro, após reunião do júri.

Esta é a 29.ª edição do Prémio Camões, instituído pelos Governos de Portugal e do Brasil, em 1988. Segundo o texto do protocolo constituinte, o prémio consagra anualmente "um autor de língua portuguesa que, pelo valor intrínseco da sua obra, tenha contribuído para o enriquecimento do património literário e cultural da língua comum".
Nós por cá consideramos este prémio uma justíssima atribuição e saudamos o autor: Parabéns, Manuel Alegre!
